  • Affidavit by the parties to the marriage stating the place and date of marriage, date of birth, marital status at the time of marriage and nationality.

  • Documents required while filing for a court marriage are similar to that of the documents required for marriage registration.

Fees required to pay for marriage registration-

  • Hindu Marriage Act- if marriage has been solemnised under this Act, the fees varies from place to place, generally it would be INR 100 for registration

  • Special Marriage Act- marriage is solemnised under the Act of 1955, fees charged will be INR 150.

  • Tatkal marriage registration- If you need the marriage certificate to be delivered in a single day, you will be charged INR 10,000.

Online marriage registration-

Certificates for marriage registration can be applied online as well. Steps mentioned below must be followed for online marriage registration-

  • You have to select the district— Husband’s details must be filled properly, then choose “registration of marriage certificate” —fill the form for marriage certificate carefully and then choose an appropriate date for appointment— after filling the details and confirming them again, you will have to click “ submit application”.

  • After the process for registration has been completed, you will receive a number printed on the acknowledgement slip, take the printout of acknowledgement and the application form filled.

Marriage registration after a few years of marriage-

  • No bar has been implied on the time period in which you would have to register your marriage, you could get your marriage registered even after 5 to 10 years of having the knot tied.

  • The procedure for registration of the marriage would remain the same, irrespective of the amount of time which has passed after your marriage.

  • However, you should register your marriage register as soon as possible, in order to avoid any emergency situation which may occur in the future.
